CERTH (CARMA’s Technical Coordinator):

Bringing their experience as a leading research center renowned for its expertise in AI and Natural Language Processing (NLP), CERTH will be the Scientific and Technical Coordinator of the CARMA Project, playing a crucial role in advancing our mission. They’re leading the charge on environmental sensing with cutting-edge technologies like LiDAR and thermal cameras, enabling precise detection of obstacles, humans, and hazards.

 

CERTH is also at the forefront of developing innovative Symbiotic Mission Orchestration Tools, enhancing collaboration between unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) for more efficient disaster response. Beyond tech, CERTH is ensuring the project’s innovations are protected and impactful by leading efforts in innovation, IPR, and data management.

XTONOMY:

XTONOMY brings its expertise in transforming mobile machines to work autonomously in the toughest environments. As part of the CARMA Project, they lead Environmental Perception, focusing on Radar Systems that can see through thick smoke and dust—perfect for emergency scenarios.

 

Their cutting-edge radar vision systems will help detect objects, locate robots, and map environments during rescue operations. With a modular, multi-sensor setup, XTONOMY’s technology will ensure all robotic platforms can perform critical tasks efficiently.

ESCRIBANO MECHANICAL & ENGINEERING (EM&E):

EM&E (Escribano Mechanical & Engineering) is a major industrial player with a presence in over 20 countries. Aunav is known for its cutting-edge innovations, providing high-tech small and medium-caliber defense systems, 3rd generation observation systems, and advanced UGV & robotics systems applied to Defense and Security.

 

In the CARMA Project, EM&E will bring its expertise in robotics to push the boundaries of Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs) for emergency operations. Their role is crucial in ensuring that first responders can operate more efficiently and safely in high-risk environments.

ANGATEC is a leader in robotics and firefighting solutions. Based in La Rochelle and founded in 2016, ANGATEC brings invaluable expertise to the CARMA Project with their TEC800 firefighting robot—widely recognized for its reliability and adaptability in critical situations. With a skilled engineering team and full control over production from design to software integration, ANGATEC tailors solutions to meet the demanding needs of emergency services. The TEC800 has proven its versatility across challenging environments, making it a trusted tool for both French fire departments and the Army.

WAYOUT Robotics:

WayOut Robotics delivers cutting-edge end-to-end robotics solutions to streamline business operations and reduce costs. Specializing in mobile robotic platforms, autonomous navigation, and critical mission teleoperation interfaces, they bring expertise in complex automation.

 

In the CARMA project, WayOut Robotics is handling autonomous navigation for each robot. They’re also unifying sensing modules across all platforms to ensure seamless performance. Excited to have them on board!

INESC ID:

Based in Lisbon, INESC-ID is a powerhouse in advanced research and development in electronics, energy, telecommunications, and IT. As a non-profit institution, INESC-ID is committed to creating innovative solutions that make a difference.

 

In the CARMA Project, INESC-ID plays a vital role in ensuring that our innovations are impactful, ethical, and user-centric. They’ll be leading efforts to:

  • Foster a participatory approach and ensure compliance with ethical and social standards
  • Develop a robust framework for user requirements and human-robot interactions
  • Transform project insights into practical solutions for first responders in challenging environments.

BSPP (Pompiers de Paris), Ministère de l'Intérieur, CIVIPOL :

Through CIVIPOL, the Ministry of the Interior’s technical cooperation operator, Pompiers de Paris brings essential expertise to CARMA. CIVIPOL’s involvement supports the project with robust financial, administrative, and logistical oversight, ensuring seamless coordination and compliance. This includes managing consortium discussions, monitoring project activities, and handling finances with the European Commission.

 

Their participation strengthens CARMA’s focus on enhancing security cooperation and addressing critical safety challenges.

DRZ:

DRZ is the world’s largest network dedicated to rescue robotics, committed to advancing the role of robotic systems in civil emergency response. As a national competence center, DRZ connects emergency responders, researchers, and industry, creating a unique platform to innovate and evaluate robotic solutions for disaster scenarios. Through its “living lab”, DRZ collaborates with end-users to test and refine technologies based on real-world needs and applications.

 

In the CARMA project, DRZ will lead the coordination of end-user engagement, as well as organize pilot tests and evaluation sessions to ensure our solutions are user-driven and field-ready.

HRTA:

HRTA, an independent NGO and member of Greece’s Civil Protection network, brings invaluable expertise to CARMA. With certified specialists in wilderness, urban, water, and sea rescue, HRTA actively supports public safety through training programs in schools and organizations and responds to emergencies with trained first responders and humanitarian aid.

In CARMA, HRTA serves as:

  • USAR (Urban Search and Rescue) domain expert
  • Technology demonstrator and field tester
  • Disseminator of project results

Additionally, HRTA will organize Test Pilot 2 in Attica, Greece, simulating an earthquake scenario to validate CARMA’s tech in real-world conditions.

BMPM:

As the largest unit of the French Navy, the Marseille Naval Fire Battalion (BMPM) is an essential force in Marseille’s safety and emergency response. With over 2,500 military and civilian personnel, BMPM is skilled in responding to a wide range of risks—from urban and forest fires to maritime incidents.

 

In the CARMA project, BMPM is leveraging its operational experience to help shape technology solutions that will enhance response capabilities, particularly for deployments aboard ships.

Madrid Local Police:

With a team of nearly 6,000 officers, Madrid Local Police stands as Spain’s largest municipal force, dedicated to public safety, crime prevention, and victim assistance across the city’s 21 districts and 18 specialized units. Their expertise spans a range of areas, from K-9 units and UAV operations to managing public security at high-attendance events.

 

As a CARMA partner, Madrid Police (MPOL) brings extensive experience from over 20 EU projects, playing a key role in defining system requirements, supporting testing and evaluations, and leading the Madrid Pilot initiative. Their involvement ensures CARMA’s alignment with real-world safety needs and maximizes impact across law enforcement communities.
